Perito Moreno glacier is located in the south of Santa Cruz province, in the opposite of Magallanes Peninsula, 80km from El Calafate. Its beauty and magnificence makes it unique.
This huge mass of ice starts in the Southern Patagonian Icefield, with 30km long, ending in the Argentino Lake, in front of Magallanes Peninsula. It is over 60 meters high above water level and offers a fantastic show with chunks of ice falling from its walls and producing sounds which can be compared to those made by a thunder. The great rupture process has made the Perito Moreno famous worldwide.
We depart from Puerto Moreno dock every day, in Canal de los Tempanos (located at the foot of the walkways, by the lake). From there, our ship will arrive within some seconds to the north front of the Perito Moreno glacier.
First we stay some time in front of the famous “rupture” area (event that happen every certain amount of years). Then, slowly, we continue sailing in front of the rest of the north face.
During the trip, you can appreciate the high of the walls, how huge this front is and maybe, if we are lucky, we could see wonderful calvings.
The guide of the ship will assist you and give you some explanations during the trip.
Recommendations: wear comfortable shoes and warm clothes (windbreaker, jacket and windbreaker and / or raincoat). Sunglasses, sunscreen and gloves. Also sun hat or coat in case it gets very cold.
