This path is located in the Estancia Los Huemules private nature reserve, located 17 km away. from El Chaltén on the way to Lago del Desierto. The trail begins at the Information Center and heads north toward Diablo Lagoon, up the river of the same name. This mighty river flows through a valley covered with native forest with beautiful views of the north face of the Fitz Roy massif. The slope of the entire route is more or less smooth and crosses the river through suspension bridges. After approximately two and a half hours abandoned the shelter of the forest to enter the stony area near the lagoon, while you can see closer and closer to the Cagliero glacier that, encased between the hills, descends to the lagoon. The lagoon is of glacial origin, alarmingly and measures about 1800 meters long by about 600 meters wide. Lagoon, and with an almost surreal presence in this remote place, is the Puesto Cagliero mountain refuge, which allows you to spend the night in its comfortable facilities, and enjoy an unbeatable view of the glacier and the lagoon next to the calorie of the fireplace. This site is very little visited but at the same time very accessible, just a few kilometers from Provincial Route 41, where it is possible to observe the very rare presence of the huemul.
